My mentoring philosophy helps build mentee confidence through hands-on experiences
Growth
I begin by meeting students where they’re at and identifying and addressing areas for growth. My approach to fostering growth includes: establishing strong technical skills, engaging in thoughtful time management and organization, and encouraging independence, troubleshooting, and critical thinking.
Trust
I communicate early and often to build trust with my mentees and a comfortable, safe, and welcoming learning environment. My approach to building trust includes: setting clear expectations and sticking to them, creating room to share questions and concerns, and respecting and encouraging new ideas and diversity of thought.
Leadership
Ultimately, I seek to build my mentees’ confidence and prepare them to be a leader in whatever career they pursue. My approach to promoting leadership includes: encouraging creativity, ownership, and peer-to-peer learning, providing opportunities to synthesize and share work, and supporting professional development and career exploration.
